PM's baby can help ease coronavirus pregnancy fears says top doctor

Gambar
The healthy birth of Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds's son can help provide reassurance for anxious pregnant women, a leading obstetrician has said. Giving birth can be a cause of anxiety even without a worldwide pandemic. There has also been data – albeit inconclusive – from China suggesting Covid-19 could be increasing the rate of premature births. But Dr Jo Mountfield, a consultant obstetrician and vice-president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), said the fact that Symonds and baby are said to be doing "very well" despite him apparently arriving early should help to soothe fears. "The vast majority of pre-term babies will do well because they are well looked after within highly skilled neonatal units," she said. "People will need to be reassured by that and that their baby will get the same care as Boris's baby. "She [Symonds] would get no different neonatal care, that's the beauty of the NHS. If you

This list features a dozen baby essentials for sleeping, eating, and playing that focus on materials, certifications, and business reputations and missions. Green certifications can take some of the work out of looking for products that are truly eco-friendly; you can also support companies that are focused on sustainable practices, such as manufacturing with a reduced carbon footprint. There are dozens of eco-friendly certifications, but some symbols you may come across when shopping

Uplifting news: ‘Adopt a grandparent’ app and police officer makes baby’s birth

A new app could help thousands of people "adopt a grandparent" and a police officer made it to his daughter's birth after his Covid-19 test results were fast-tracked. Here's a look at some of Wednesday's more uplifting stories which you might have missed. – Care home to create 'adopt a grandparent' app after the success of video chat scheme A care home group is creating a new app to help people link with residents, after the success of its "adopt a grandparent" video chat scheme. CHD Living, which runs 16 care facilities, saw 72,000 people sign up to a scheme that allowed people to video call residents. Wire Taps: Washington Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman on Pros for Heroes + Aníbal Sánchez on Baby Shark + more Nats links...

Gambar
Davey Martinez joked early this Spring about forcing someone on the team to adopt Baby Shark as their walk-up music so that the tradition will stay alive in Nationals Park. But one veteran, Aníbal Sánchez, told SiriusXM MLB Network Radio hosts Steve Phillips and Eduardo Perez on Monday that Gerardo Parra, who started the Baby Shark thing in D.C., was unique, and trying to recreate it probably won't work. "I don't know if someone is going to take the Baby Shark. I think the Baby Shark came with the right character," Sánchez said. "Parra, he brings so much energy to the team, and he brings a kid's fun — and he's unbelievable." "I don't think anybody else could do that besides Parra." Parra is, of course, playing in Japan now. Will the Nationals let it go when baseball starts being played in the nation's capital again, or, like the whole Mike Morse/Take on Me thing, will they find some way to keep it going? Please don

Coronavirus: Lincolnshire baby recovers with 'amazing' care

Gambar
The family of a one-year-old girl who is among the youngest in the country to survive coronavirus have thanked the "amazing" NHS staff who cared for her. Leah Peters, from Coningsby, Lincolnshire, was born prematurely at 32 weeks and has a congenital heart defect and chronic lung disease. Her parents, Agata and Michael, noticed she had a cough a few weeks ago and she was admitted to Pilgrim Hospital. After being given oxygen she has now recovered and been allowed home. More stories from around Lincolnshire Mrs Peters said they were "not overly worried" when Leah developed a cough as she lives with her two older sisters, Natalie aged four and Emily aged five. "We assumed it was a cold or another bug they had brought home," she said. "Because of Leah's heart condition we have a nurse come to visit her at home every week. "The nurse took her stats and as they were a bit low and combined with the cough she called an ambulance and we wer

Baby formula shortages easing after coronavirus panic buying but don't expect fully stocked shelves for months

Gambar
For weeks now, Samantha Kilano has kept her husband and 11-month-old daughter safe in their Vallejo, California, home, shopping for groceries online to avoid any potential exposure to COVID-19.  She clicks from website to website on the constant prowl for formula as her two containers slowly dwindle to a few scoops. Kilano finally located Nido formula on Instacart, but the price had gone up, a tough hit to the family's finances that are especially strained after her husband's construction gigs dried up with coronavirus fears and the state shutdown. "I'm glad that my baby is 11 months old and not smaller, or else this formula issue would've stressed me out much more," she says, "but it's still extremely stressful." Here's welcomenews for worried parents and caregivers like Kilano: formula, which vanished during a nationwide run on baby supplies, could start flowing back onto store shelves in the next week or two.
