Bed Bath & Beyond donates $10 million in products to help communities in need
Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. will donate $10 million in essential and comfort items to those affected by COVID-19.
Dubbed the Bringing Home Everywhere program, Bed Bath plans to deliver products that provide home comfort and essential support to communities and pandemic frontliners across the country and Canada.
"Our homes have become even more central to our lives during this crisis, yet we know that for many people that sense of home has been affected by the health and economic impacts of COVID-19. We're doing what we can to bring home everywhere, creating comfort and providing essential support to communities suffering in the face of this pandemic," said Chief Executive Officer Mark Tritton in a statement. "So, whether it's fresh sheets, pillows and towels for people in the hospital or nursing care, food and home items for those in need, or toys or essential infant supplies for children, we will do what we can to make it easy to feel at home for those most in need at this time."
Bringing Home Everywhere is being launched in partnership with Virginia-based nonprofit Good360, which helps companies donate excess merchandise to charities instead of destroying it.
Bed Bath will leverage its broad range of home, baby and infant, health and personal care, and food and beverage products across the company's retail banners to provide items to some of the 90,000 charities in Good360's network.
"We know our loyal associates and customers are already doing what they can to support their local communities – and they can join our effort to Bring Home Everywhere by supporting the program and Good360 on our website," said Tritton.
A recent Good360 survey found that responding nonprofits need home goods and that 47 percent sought bedding in particular. Through Bring Home Everywhere, Bed Bath will deliver essential home goods to those in health care facilities, nursing facilities, and communities hardest hit by COVID-19's economic impact.
Thus far, the program has donated 3,500 towels to 13 hospitals across New York City for use by patients, health care workers or to sanitize medical equipment; and sent home supplies, infant care items, food and other essential goods to families in New Jersey, California, New York and Washington state, with more destinations in the planning phase.
Baby monitors were donated by buybuy BABY to two Toronto hospitals, which helped reduce the chance of infection by enabling frontline health care workers to communicate with Intensive Care Unit teams and COVID-19 patients, according to the company.
Bed Bath's relationship with Good360 dates back to 2001. Since then, the company has collaborated in retail matching programs for nonprofits and distribution of goods to communities throughout North America.
